トラスナ・ナ・ドンタ(Trasna na dTonnta)のメロディーにヒュー・Ｓ・ロバートソン(Hugh S. Robertson: 1874-1952)が英語の詞をつけたものだそうです。

この曲の中に出てくる、西にある我が故郷アイラ島といえば、スコッチウイスキーの蒸留所がある島としても有名です。麦芽の成長を進めないようにするための燃料として使われる泥炭の香りがアイラ島のウイスキーの特徴とされています。

この種のウイスキーは好き嫌いがはっきりと分かれると言われていますが、何事も片側に寄っていない方が「平和」だと思います。
