ハイ・ジャーマニー、「高いドイツ」、つまり、ドイツの山岳地帯、でしょうか。

これから戦地に赴くのに、相手の女性ポリーについて来てくれ、というウィリー。もちろん、行けない、と答えるポリー。当たり前です。

体も弱いし、おなかの中に赤ちゃんもいるし、戦えるわけがありません。いくら愛する人から誘われたとはいえ、戦いの場について行くのは、どこか違うような気がします。

男女を引き離す戦争は、人と人とを引き離します。

High Germany: ハイ・ジャーマニー、高地ドイツ、「高地ドイツ語」ということばを耳にしたことがあるから、それを真似てみたが、実際のところは分からない
England: イングランド、ブリテン島にある大英帝国の中心地
