日本人として永遠に忘れてはならないことがあります。題名は「太陽が燃えている」ですが、太陽が何かを燃やしているわけではありません。

ルーク・ケリー(Luke Kelly: 1940-1984)がその声に平和の祈りをしたためつつ、厳かに歌います。生々しい描写が一層平和を希求させます。

作者イアン・キャンベル(Ian Campbell: 1933-2012)はジ・イアン・キャンベル・フォーク・グループ(The Ian Campbell Folk Group)の中心メンバーで、UB40のロビン・キャンベル(Robin Campbell)と、脱退してしまいましたがアリ・キャンベル(Ali Campbell: 1951-)はイアンの息子です。

また、日本ではおなじみのサイモンとガーファンクル(Simon And Garfunkel)もこの歌をデビューアルバムで歌っています。
