スコットランドの男性の正装にキルトというのがあります。まあ、外国人の無責任な言い方で言ってしまえばスカートと同じようなものなのでしょうが、下には何もはいていないという「都市伝説」があるそうです。

この歌もそんな「伝説」を題材にしたもので、若い女性が二人そのなぞを解き明かし、なおかつ、解けたお礼に贈り物まで捧げる、というおまけつきの話に仕上がっています。

起きたときにブルーのリボンがついていたら、ひょっとして．．．

キルトをはいたスコットランド男が雲ひとつない夜バーを出ました
誰が見ても度を越して飲んだなと分かるような歩き振りでした
ヨタヨタと手が踊るような千鳥足でとうとう立っていられなくなりました
それで道路わきの草むらに突っ伏してそのまま寝てしまいました

その頃若くて可愛い女の子が二人そばを通り過ぎようとしました
一人が目を輝かせてもう一人の子に言いました
ねえ、ガッチリ系のスコットランド男があそこに寝てるよ
キルトの下って何にもはいてないって本当なのかなあ

二人はそうっと音を立てないように寝ている男に近づいていき
中が覗けるようにキルトを数センチ持ち上げました
スコットランドのキルトの下に見えた、二人が見たものは
誕生時に神から授けられた雅なものでした

行く前にカレにプレゼントをあげようよということになりました
プレゼントにシルクの青いリボンを矢に巻きつけると
可愛らしい星を取り囲むようにキルトが持ち上がるのでした

茂みに隠れてキルトを持ち上げ目にしたものをまじまじと見ました
目の前にあるものを目にした男が驚いて言うには
オマエどこに行ってたのかと思ったら一等賞をとってきたのか
