昭和37年（1962年）にエレクトラ・レーベルから発売されたジュディー・コリンズ(Judy Collins: 1939-)のLP『ゴールデン・アップルズ・オブ・ザ・サン』に収録されているタイトル曲は、W.B.イェイツ(William Butler Yeats: 1865-1939)の詩「さまようイーンガスの歌(The Song Of Wandering Aengus)」がもとになっています。

イェイツといえば、大戦間にノーベル文学賞をとったアイルランドはダブリン生まれの詩人です。歌うジュディー・コリンズも名字コリンズからアイルランド系です。

私がアイルランドの歌にはまるきっかけを作ったのは間違いなくジュディー・コリンズだと思っています。

And when white moths were on the wing
And moth-like stars were flickering out
I dropped the berry in a stream
And caught a little silver trout

When I had laid it on the floor

With apple blossom in her hair
Who called me by my name and ran
And faded through the brightening air

Though I am old with wandering
Through hollow lands and hilly lands

And walk among long dappled grass

The silver apples of the moon
The golden apples of the sun

ハシバミの木の森に出かけた
頭の中が火事だった
ハシバミを折って剥いで棒にして
糸をつけて木の実をくくりつけた

白い蛾がパタパタ飛びまわり
蛾の星がチカチカきらめくと
川に木の実をポチャンとたれて
小さい白銀のマスをつった

地面にそのマスを置いてから
火をおこすとメラメラ燃える
地面でカサカサ音を立てる
何かが私の名を呼んだ

微かに見え隠れする女の子が
髪にりんごの花を咲かせ
名を呼んでは走り去り
輝き放つ空気の中を消えていく

さまよってきづくとこの年
坂をくだって坂をのぼった
あの子の行方を探し出し
唇にキスして手に手をとって

木漏れ日の差す緑を歩き
時の経つのを忘れて摘もう
りんごはしろがねの月を
りんごはこがねの太陽を
