「ハングマン」というゲームがあります。通常二人でおこなうもので、一人があることばを出題します。たとえば、”football”を出題するとします。この場合、下線をアルファベットの数にあわせて8つ、”_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _”のように用意します。

次に、答える側はアルファベットを一つずつ言っていきます。たとえば、”o”と言うと、先ほどの解答欄は”_ o o _ _ _ _ _”のようにあいていきます。

ただし、間違えると、出題者側が間違いひとつごとに一本ずつ首吊りに吊るされる人の絵を描いていくのです。

そして、首吊りの人の絵が完成したら出題者の勝ち、描き終わる前に答えのことばを完成させたら解答者の勝ち、ということになります。

ステレオフォニックスのデビューCD『ワーズ・ゲッツ・アラウンド』の左上に描かれている首吊りの絵がまさに「ハングマン」のもので、下に描かれている”W O R D　G E T S　A R O U N D”がまさにそれです。

今回の答えは、『ことばはひとり歩きする』でした。誰かがトイレの個室で電話で小声で話していた「来週火星から使者がくるらしいよ」が、一国を動かす大事態に発展しないとも限らない、ということです。
