フレッド・ニール(Fred Neil: 1936-2001)は、1960年代半ばぐらいから70年代前半にかけて活動をおこなっていたアーチストで、その後はこの曲に歌われているドルフィン、つまりクジラの小型版であるイルカ、漢字で書けば海豚の保護に生涯を費やしたそうです。

歌詞の中にSaturday’s child（土曜日の子供）という表現がでてきます。これは、何曜日に生まれた子供は．．．というような一種のわらべ歌の一節です。

Thursdays’ child has far to go,
Friday’s child is loving and giving,
Saturday’s child works hard for his living,
And the child that is born on the Sabbath day

月曜生まれは見目麗しく
火曜生まれは雅にあふれ
水曜生まれは悩みにあふれ
木曜生まれは行き先遠く
金曜生まれは愛を施し
土曜生まれは努力で生きる
安息日に生まれた子供は
明るくはつらつ元気な子

土曜日に生まれた子供は「一生懸命努力して生きていく」とあります。月曜日に生まれた私は「見目麗しき」と訳しました。こう訳されているのですから、信じるしかありません。
