子どものころから「ダンス」というものが苦手で、本当に昭和生まれでよかったなあ、と感じることができます。今では、学校で体育の中に「ダンス」という項目があるのですから、想像しただけでぞっとしてしまいます。
今回の『ロード・オブ・ザ・ダンス(Lord Of The Dance)』は、1963年に書かれたもので、『シンプル・ギフツ(Simple Gifts)』 のメロディーを使っているそうです。
世界の人たちが何も考えずにダンスをしていれば、戦争なんてなくなるのに、といったような非現実的なことは考えずに、楽しめる曲です。少なくとも、無神論者の私にとっては。
Heaven: ヘブン、天、天国
the Earth: ジ・アース、地球
Bethlehem: ベスリーヘム、イエス・キリストが生まれたとされる地ベツレヘム
He: イエス・キリストを表すことば
the Scribe: ザ・スクライブ、ユダヤ教の法律学者
the Pharisee: ザ・ファラシー、パリサイ人
the Sabbath: 安息日、通常は仕事や労働はしない日とされている
Friday: フライデー、金曜日、イエス・キリストが処刑された曜日とされる
