普通、のどが渇く状態になるのは、人間をはじめ生物だと思いますが、この歌では、靴がのどが渇いているのです。水分を欲しているのです。

どれだけ雨が降らないところを歩いてきたのでしょう。足も棒のようになっているはずです。皮もむけて、ヒビもはいり、タコや水膨れもできているかもしれません。

この曲もジュディー・コリンズ(Judy Collins: 1939-)のアルバムで最初に聞きました。『フィフス・アルバム(Fifth Album)』というタイトルのLPでした。

とにかく、靴を脱いで、体を休ませて、それから、先に進んで、「自由」を目指しましょう。
