weeping willow（ウィーピング・ウィロー）とは、直訳すると「泣き柳」、つまりシダレヤナギです。枝垂れ柳といえば、どうしてもお化け、しかも女性の幽霊を思い出してしまうのですが、これは日本人だからなのでしょうか。
西洋でも、柳は死の象徴であるらしく、絵画にもその傾向が現れているものがあるようです。
